How it is built
An illustration is a composed picture with a point of view, not a random pretty render. The skeleton is a focal subject, a supporting cast of shapes, a lighting direction, and a palette that repeats. What you change most is medium (ink, gouache, 3D clay, flat vector), camera, and the story beat. Lock the number of subjects and the action. Texture, background density, and decorative motifs are controls. If the model mixes three art styles, melts perspective, or fills every gap with detail, the picture has no place for the eye to rest. Decide line versus paint first, then light, then color. A strong illustration can be recognized from the silhouette of its main shape alone.
Watch-outs
- 01Name one medium. Mixed ink-plus-3D-plus-photo is visual noise.
- 02Lock the subject count and the action before decorating.
- 03Leave rest area. Full-bleed detail has no focal point.
- 04Pick a light direction. Flat pretty color is not a picture.
